Like the Prince Regent whose Royal Pavilion became a party palace, this is a town that knows how to have fun.

The bars, along with fashionable restaurants contribute to what is an edgy and hedonistic nightlife that due to the size of the city is more concentrated than that found in other British cities.

The shopping is as good as any other European city with shops selling anything imaginable, from   fashion boutiques; antique and bric-a-brac shops sit side-by-side with trendy coffee houses and cram the streets across the promenade leading away from the beach-front.

The North Laine area is home to the city’s strong alternative scene where hippies, Goths, street performers and struggling artists congregate and this art scene has given rise to the Brighton Festival.

The second largest arts festival in the United Kingdom after Edinburgh, it is held annually in May.
